Module

Improving Credit Score Disclosure

Author: Anne Kim and Tess Stovall
In The Middle Class Program

Abstract

This module introduces two proposals to make credit scores more transparent.

Description

A consumer’s credit score is the one number that can make or break their financial future, and yet many Americans don’t know what their credit score is. Without this information, consumers do not have all of the necessarily tools to make smart financial decisions. By allowing consumers to receive one free credit score per year and the right to ask any lender what credit score it used in a particular transaction, credit scores would become more transparent to Americans. This module lays out the problem, outlines how to respond and provides suggestions to roll out your plan to the public.
